Job Description:
As a specialist in procedural art - you will help us develop the best multiplayer games for various platforms and game genres. You'll make procedurally generated art for games and enable others by identifying where proc-gen can boost productivity and provide the workflows/frameworks to enable it.
You’ll work closely across all art crafts, designers and engineers making sure the work you do is suitable for the games, understood and used correctly. You’ll document the workflows for internal and external artists to follow.
You’ll report to the Lead Technical Artist with a dotted line to the Head of Art.


  • Work with the art, technical art and design teams, to identify, propose and develop production ready procedural tools and workflows for asset creation, while maintaining and improving existing procedural tools.
  • Provide daily support for Art and Tech teams, making sure the wider team is leveling up with proc-gen pipelines and enabling individuals to achieve tasks in an efficient & consistent manner.
  • Help the Production team in defining your tasks, track and report progress, risks, issues and blockers.
  • Provide integral support the development of proc-gen for games, by creating benchmarks and workflows for all manner of game art.
  • Define and help implement the best methods for using Houdini and other proc-gen tools for artists.
  • Ensure your work takes into account the needs of the game, the developers and end users, timeframes and technical constraints of the product.
  • Assist in identifying inefficiencies in existing asset pipelines and art workflows.
  • Ensure your work is robust and can cope with a dramatic scale in production for multiplayer demands.
  • Help with R&D of visual development.
  • Keep open channels of communication across the studio - responding quickly to change and flagging issues/risks/praise.
  • Continually evaluate proc-gen technology - iterating on tool/pipeline designs and conducting group critiques to improve work practices and overall art quality.
  • Use your deep understanding of Houdini to guide/create best practices, technical benchmarks for internal and outsource teams.
  • You’ll keep all stakeholders and end users informed of your work.
  • You act as a point of contact for proc-gen art - internally, outsource and clients. You’re happy discussing the work with all disciplines and an ambassador for the studio and your craft with our external partners.
  • There may be some travel needed for this role.
  • You help with recruitment for the tech art team and other crafts.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Extended experience and understanding of Houdini Engine.
  • Knowledge of 1 or more node based texture creation tools Substance Painter - Designer
  • Good understanding of toolset building for art assets creation.
  • A great ability to think creatively to overcome technical challenges.
  • Great communication skills and a positive attitude.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Strong capacity to work independently as well as in a team.
  • A strong desire to investigate new techniques in the field.
  • Familiarity with the creation of user-friendly tools and systems that enable artists. ? Knowledge of the Unreal Engine a plus.
  • Knowledge of Blender a plus.
  • Understanding of shaders.
  • Understanding of art optimisation techniques.
  • A good artistic ability, shown preferably within real-time game engines.
  • Knowledge of VEX and Python
  • Understanding of 3D Math functions (linear algebra & vector maths) for real time graphics.
  • Knowledge of 1 or more “traditional” 3D tools, e.g. Maya desirable


  • Experience working on shipped titles for consoles, as Houdini/Technical Artist.
  • Experience of creating and maintaining proc-gen based tools.
  • Experience in creating solutions in node based editors.
  • Experience in creating DOP based simulations.
  • Experience using profiling tools for performance reviews and optimisations.
  • Experience in the VFX industry is a bonus.
  • Experience managing people is a bonus.
  • Experience speaking at industry events is a bonus.
  • Experience with creative coding frameworks is a bonus.
